Martial Arts Checklist
Preparing for your First Session
Apparel & Grooming
What to Wear: Choose comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to move freely. Spats/leggings under athletic shorts (without zippers) and a rash guard top are perfect.
Safety First: Please remove all jewelry, including watches, piercings and rings, before our session begins.
Grooming: Ensure fingernails and toenails are trimmed short.
Optional: A notebook to write down ideas or thoughts. Hand towel. Water bottle for hydration.
Your Training Space
Training Area: Please ensure a open space of approximately 10x10 feet in your home, office, or building fitness center. If yoga mats are available, we will be using 4 yoga mats (line up next to each other to form a “square”) for the ground portion of your training. Please ensure any pet(s) are safety in a different room.
Experience
Open Communication: Our sessions are moderately physically demanding and we will be exchanging physical techniques. If you have any past injuries or specific areas of concern, please let me know immediately so we can adapt the curriculum to your comfort level.
Mindset: You do not need to be a "fighter" or even an athlete to start. Simply bring an open mind and a willingness to see how physics and leverage can protect your personal space.
Arrival
Your instructor will arrive at your residence fitness centers/home 15 minutes before our agreed training time. I will handle the setup and breakdown of the mats, so we can focus entirely on your training.
